H.O.H #1: Why we Love Bee's Wrap Sustainable Food Storage
Welcome to the first post in our new series, Helpful on the Homestead (or H.O.H. for short). This series is all about showcasing products and services that meet our standards for sustainable living. We share products that we use and love (our top 2 criteria) so that you can make informed choices about how to spend your money and time, hopefully in a way that aligns with your values.
You know how sometimes you see a product on a shelf and you think to yourself, "I should probably be all about that," but your brain is a little too full to make a decision so you put it off? Then, you see that product over and over again till you eventually decide to try it and you wonder, "what was I thinking not buying this?"
That's how it was for us with Bee's Wrap Sustainable Food Storage. It is produced a half hour from us and is carried in many local stores, its a solution to eliminate waste, and its made from beeswax! But it wasn't until my brother my gave us a package (cause he knew we should love it) that we fully understood the opportunity we had been missing. In our defense, this was a few years ago when it was just starting to get popular.
Let me tell you the most basic and important message you need to know about this product: Bee's Wrap is a substitute for disposable food wrap (like plastic wrap or aluminum foil) that keeps all sorts of food fresh and is washable and re-usable for about a year. And yes, it really works!

Bee's Wrap comes in a variety of sizes, so you can wrap everything from a lemon to a loaf of bread easily, or use it to cover the top of virtually any size bowl.
(and this is cool) Bee's Wrap works because you wrap your hands around it and warm up the beeswax a little bit to help it form in place. Just think of it this way - in order to make it work you literally have to give your food (or your bowl) a little love; what a sweet moment.
Bee's Wrap is washable - just rinse it in cool water with a little dish soap and it's as good as new, even after using it for a juicy cucumber or a few-day-too-old avacado.
Bee's Wrap is compostable - once it has lived out its life in your kitchen (about a year) you can rest assured that the organic cotton and natural ingredients will decompose.
